Sea fishing trip

(+ flights)

You can combine your trip to Fish Creek with some activities provided by our recommended partners to explore Alaska further on your own. Maybe you are familiar with the TV series Deadliest Catch and its wild adventures when fishing for red king crab? Before (or after) your action-filled week at Fish Creek, you can travel independently by train or rental car to the town of Seward, which acts as the starting point of these fishing trips. Along the journey, you can stop to take in the breathtaking scenery or admire stunning glaciers of unparalleled beauty and learn more about their history over the course of decades and centuries (for example, Exit Glacier or Whittier Glacier).

In Seward, you can take part in a 12-hour fishing trip. You can choose between halibut and salmon, or choose a combo trip to fish for both. With our recommended partners, you get to enjoy the Bering Sea, which is part of the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, and its rich seascapes and gifts. In addition to majestic mountains and glaciers, you are likely to spot whales, sea lions, dolphins, sea otters, and sea eagles, as well as several different types of fish during your outing.

In order to take advantage of the “ride” out offered by the low tide, the fishing boats put out to sea each morning before 7 a.m. You stay out at sea until 3–4 p.m., and then take advantage of the high tide to return your boat to the port of Seward. Due to the schedule above, you should be prepared to spend two nights in Seward, using the local accommodation options.

Including the driving days and stops to admire various sights, the trip takes about 3–4 full days.

The accommodation options in Seward are very limited, so you should make your booking well in advance before your trip. The sea fishing trips are also very popular. You should be prepared to book both at least 6 months prior to the start of your trip.

The total cost of accommodation (for 2 nights) plus the sea fishing trip is approximately EUR 450 per person (depending on the type of accommodation and group size). You should also factor in the cost of car hire or train tickets.
